For the longest time I had the dream to create winter wedding styled shoot. Growing up in Europe, I have witnessed plenty of snow. As a child, I used to spend hour with my face against the cold window, watching the snow fall out of the sky. It appeared out of nowhere, and just kept falling down, hugging everything in a white blanket. That’s when my fascination with snow started.
There is something absolutely magical in the snowflakes slowly falling out of the sky! It’s like they are dancing in slow motion for you. Or when the sunlight hits the surface of the fresh snow! It’s like someone threw millions of little diamonds on the ground. Snow covers all imperfections and dust, making everything perfectly white and pure again. But fresh snow is so fragile; the touch of your hand will destroy it within seconds. That’s what draws me towards snow, the fact that it’s so illusive, it’s nothing more than frozen water, but it holds the power to transforms reality into fairytale.
I always wanted to bring the magic of snow into a winter wedding styled shoot. To combine those elaborate white wedding gowns with a curtain of fresh snow. When I saw the Ice Queen in Narnia movie, I knew it was possible! We started gathering ideas and details for this shoot. Together with a handful of friends, we created a reality out of movie set. We wanted the entire set to resemble the winter feel. That’s why you will not see any flowers, only crystal candelabras that look like ice popsicles. There are no bouquets; we replaced them with silk and brooches. The weather played along on the day, sweeping us with wind and showering with cold rain. That made the images even more realistic! The outcome was worth every effort. We managed to bring European winter into South African winter wedding styled shoot.
